INSPIRING “KINDNESS”

KAAYO was set up by mother and daughter tandem in January of 2017. The KAAYO family includes the T’Boli of Lake Sebu in South Cotabato, the Bagobo-Tagabawa tribe who reside in the outskirts of Mt. Apo, Mindanao designers, and local sewers from Mindanao. Both tribes live on lands teeming with abaca thus weaving is still a dynamic part of daily life. Unlike highly commercial enterprises where the process of creating fabric has become methodical, the weaver and her narrative remains mystical. These Mindanao Tribes still adhere to beliefs of their ancestors practicing traditional design and handiwork derived from nature, festivities, spirits, and gods, culture, dreams, and even the humble rice grain.

Kaayo, the brand, marries tradition and trends to come up with bespoke pieces that are trully Mindanao, bringing honor to the tribes and Philippine culture. Through the brand, purposeful creativity of the modern Filipino enterpreneur who exhibits a deep respect for customs, tradition & trends and the harmonious juxtaposition of old and modern have become a beautiful reality.
